Is it a Cyber Attack?

No. Microsoft has confirmed that this is not a cyber attack. The issue was triggered by a faulty update in CrowdStrike, a popular cloud-based security solution. CrowdStrike officials stated that the problem arose during a routine sensor configuration update.

Note: Mac and Linux users were not affected by this specific issue.

Protect Your System: Always ensure your PC has a reliable backup power source like a UPS to avoid hardware damage during sudden system crashes or forced restarts. [Check Best Budget UPS Options on Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/ups-power-supply/s?k=ups+power+supply)

How to Fix the CrowdStrike BSOD on Your PC

If your computer is stuck in a boot loop or showing a Blue Screen, follow these temporary steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Boot into Safe Mode: Start your PC in Safe Mode (the method varies by model, usually by pressing F8 or through Advanced Startup). Alternatively, use a Live OS from a USB drive.

  2. Navigate to System Drivers: Go to the following directory in your Windows installation partition (usually C: Drive): C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike

  3. Locate the Faulty File: Look for the file named: “C-00000291.sys”*

  4. Delete the File: Delete this specific file from the folder.

  5. Restart: Restart your computer normally.

While this update caused chaos, it highlights the importance of having professional-grade hardware and backup systems. If you're looking for a more stable and powerful machine for your work, consider an upgrade.
